Nissan Began Technological Re-Equipment of Factories
Japanese automaker Nissan plans to invest $ 301 million in the modernization and re-equipment of factories.
What Are the Innovations?
Nissan has launched a new phase of production modernization. The first factory which is planned to be modernized is located in Tochigi. The introduction of new technologies necessary for the production of the plug-in, electrified and “smart” cars at the enterprise will be completed by the end of 2020. In the future, they will be applied to other Nissan factories around the world.
“These innovations will help create a new generation of electrified and smart cars that embody the Nissan Intelligent Mobility concept and also make manufacturing operations more flexible, efficient and sustainable,” the company’s representatives said in an official press release.
According to NissanNews , one of the innovations is the “universal transmission mounting system”, which allows automating such a time-consuming and lengthy process as assembling power units. The new system, developed by the Nissan Research and Development Center, allows you to install the power unit already assembled. For this, a special automated pallet is used. During installation, the system measures the dimensions and position of the engine compartment in real-time and installs the units with an accuracy of a fraction of a millimeter.
The new system is easily adaptable. The same pallet can be used for mounting three types of power units (ICE, hybrid and fully electric), and can also assemble and mount 27 different power plants.
Other processes also plan to automate. In particular, the robot will apply a sealant to the body. After observing the work of the masters, Nissan engineers created a special movement program for the manipulator which is digitization and installation of upholstery. The robot was trained to put it exactly in place through the windshield opening, applying the calculated force, and also to check if special fasteners were fixed.
Modernization will affect other production processes as well. So, the sealed material will be applied by the robot, and body painting will be carried out simultaneously with the painting of the bumper. The use of water-based paints made it possible to make the process low-temperature. This will reduce the cost of working time and electricity, as well as carbon dioxide emissions. Besides, a new spray booth collects waste paint for use elsewhere.
Nissan is confident that the use of robots at certain stages of production will help free skilled workers for other areas.
At the same time, do not forget that today the company is facing a drop in revenue, which is why it is going to reduce staff. Financial difficulties, by the way, did not prevent the company from heading for re-equipment of enterprises ⏤ and this is a very costly process.
A Little More About Nissan
Nissan Motor is a Japanese industrial corporation specializing in the production of cars, trucks and buses. It encompasses brands such as Nissan and Datsun. In the premium segment, the corporation sells Infiniti cars. The company also produces sports boats, communication satellites, etc. The headquarter is located in Tokyo. After the Asian crisis in 1998, Nissan Motor teamed up with Renault.
Of course, Nissan corporation factories are present on virtually every continent. The most productive and technological Nissan car factories are located in the Japanese city of Yokohama and the English Sunderland. In Japan, they produce all the most expensive cars of the corporation, productive SUVs.
What do automotive engineers build in Nissan? Well, the company’s budget offer includes models such as Almera or Sentra. These are quite decent cars that are sold in large quantities and do not serve to raise the image of the corporation. They are very simple, possess only the necessary technologies in configurations and offer the most necessary security systems and nothing more. But their affordable price attracts a buyer in an economical segment.
The company’s offer also includes premium transport, which is represented, for example, by the executive Teana sedan and a large Murano crossover. This allows the company to count on the favor of customers in different price categories. Crossovers are presented by the budget Terrano and the traditional passable X-trail, but the following representatives of the model line attract the most active attention:
● Juke ⏤ a compact SUV with an incredibly bold design, which became a successful experiment of the company;
● Qashqai is one of the most popular representatives of the compact crossover class with an excellent price;
● Pathfinder ⏤ a real SUV with good technical characteristics and a comfortable interior;
● Patrol ⏤ the legendary SUV, which was revived several years ago and gained the highest popularity;
● GT-R ⏤ a sports coupe offering an incredible engine, high power, and excellent design;
● Navarra is one of the largest SUVs in its class with functional technology.
In 2007, Nissan entered into an agreement with rival Toyota to use certain hybrid drive technologies in the new Altima, thereby ushering in a new line of business ⏤ the launch of the “hybrid electric vehicle”, which runs on both gasoline and electricity.
The Japanese corporation Nissan has an interesting history and offers customers beautiful cars. Almost all the models that came out under the wing of this company can be called purebred and unusual. The most noticeable models of the manufacturer possess excellent shapes, nice design, good materials, and the highest ride comfort. Even when it comes to simple budget cars.
The company does not chase the price of its cars, offering more affordable price tags than its main competitors. This is one of the main factors that makes many potential buyers take a serious look at the presented vehicles.
Nissan Innovation Lab
In 2017, Nissan announced the opening of a new laboratory to develop innovative projects in all areas of business. The launch of the Innovation Lab is a significant milestone on Nissan’s path to creating and implementing innovative solutions. Innovation Lab is located in one of the largest European startup centers ⏤ Paris Le Square.
In partnership with other promising startups, Nissan Innovation Lab seeks to attract new dynamically developing companies from across Europe. Nissan’s partnership with 50 Partners will focus on Nissan’s energy business, and working with companies such as NUMA will help develop other priority areas.
Nissan Innovation Lab offers new promising companies the opportunity to collaborate with Nissan in the areas of joint development and innovation, as well as prototyping and implementation of training courses. Nissan will introduce new employees who will oversee the current innovation projects of the Nissan Innovation Lab.
Innovation is one of Nissan’s core values. The new Nissan Innovation Lab proves Nissan's commitment to working on high-tech projects that have been created both internally and in collaboration with other organizations. The pursuit of innovation is also demonstrated by Nissan's domestic policy. So, last month, the company announced the winner of the Chairman’s Innovation Awards, which enables company employees across Europe to turn their promising ideas into reality.
