Nissan Began Technological Re-Equipment of Factories

Japanese automaker Nissan plans to invest $ 301 million in the modernization and re-equipment of factories.

Nissan has launched a new phase of production modernization. The first factory which is planned to be modernized is located in Tochigi. The introduction of new technologies necessary for the production of the plug-in, electrified and “smart” cars at the enterprise will be completed by the end of 2020. In the future, they will be applied to other Nissan factories around the world.

“These innovations will help create a new generation of electrified and smart cars that embody the Nissan Intelligent Mobility concept and also make manufacturing operations more flexible, efficient and sustainable,” the company’s representatives said in an official press release.

According to NissanNews , one of the innovations is the “universal transmission mounting system”, which allows automating such a time-consuming and lengthy process as assembling power units. The new system, developed by the Nissan Research and Development Center, allows you to install the power unit already assembled. For this, a special automated pallet is used. During installation, the system measures the dimensions and position of the engine compartment in real-time and installs the units with an accuracy of a fraction of a millimeter.

The new system is easily adaptable. The same pallet can be used for mounting three types of power units (ICE, hybrid and fully electric), and can also assemble and mount 27 different power plants.

Other processes also plan to automate. In particular, the robot will apply a sealant to the body. After observing the work of the masters, Nissan engineers created a special movement program for the manipulator which is digitization and installation of upholstery. The robot was trained to put it exactly in place through the windshield opening, applying the calculated force, and also to check if special fasteners were fixed.

Modernization will affect other production processes as well. So, the sealed material will be applied by the robot, and body painting will be carried out simultaneously with the painting of the bumper. The use of water-based paints made it possible to make the process low-temperature. This will reduce the cost of working time and electricity, as well as carbon dioxide emissions. Besides, a new spray booth collects waste paint for use elsewhere.

Nissan is confident that the use of robots at certain stages of production will help free skilled workers for other areas.

At the same time, do not forget that today the company is facing a drop in revenue, which is why it is going to reduce staff. Financial difficulties, by the way, did not prevent the company from heading for re-equipment of enterprises ⏤ and this is a very costly process.
