General Motors Will Have Presented 20 New Electric Vehicles by 2023

Concern “General Motors” has published its latest sustainability report, which revealed plans for the release of new models in the coming years. The list also includes the already announced GMC Hummer EV, Cadillac, and Chevrolet electric crossovers. Generally, it encompasses 20 new models.

What Are the Plans?

The Americans plan to present all twenty new products by 2023. Of these, the Cadillac brand will receive four SUVs and one executive sedan. The latter has been already announced to be Celestiq, which will replace the outgoing gasoline CT6 from the US market. Honestly, this "four-door" vehicle promises to become more expensive: it is assumed that it will have a screen in the width of the front panel, luxury materials for decoration, and the cars will be assembled by hand.

Also familiar is the Cadillac Lyriq crossover. The premiere of the "green" SUV in the status of a concept is scheduled for early August this year. It is expected to be comparable in size to the Cadillac XT5. Lyriq is based on the new modular platform of GM, there is no official information about the "electric power" yet. The serial production of the model will be launched in 2022.

Chevrolet will also have some new products in the coming years. A midsize crossover is among them. Moreover,  a BET Truck pickup with a power reserve on a single charge of more than 645 kilometers and a Bolt EUV hatchback, similar in appearance to the Blazer and equipped with the Super Cruise autopilot are presented as well. The Buick portfolio expects two models of "traditional proportions": a crossover and an "expressive" SUV. Also, the electric GMC Hummer EV is scheduled to debut at the end of 2021.

Cadillac's Electric Flagship

The Cadillac Celestiq electric sedan, due to be on sale by 2022, will be the most expensive car in the history of the Cadillac brand. This is reported by the Truth about cars , citing a statement from Cadillac President Steve Carlisle.

It is claimed that the Cadillac Celestiq will start at $ 200,000. Previously, no other Cadillac model was so expensive, although luxury cars have been produced under this brand for many decades. We do not include single copies of cars made by this company. We are talking about production models.

By far the most expensive production Cadillac model is the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado “B” produced in 1957. It cost $13,074, which is now the equivalent of $120,000.

Celestiq will be hand-assembled in limited quantities. That is, we are talking about a truly unique car that must fully match its price. Unfortunately, nothing is known about its electric power plant yet. We also don't know its power reserve.

Cadillac Lyriq Redesigned: Impossible Is Possible

Cadillac appears to have been in Renaissance mode for over a decade. Brian Smith who is a design director at Cadillac said that we definitely wouldn't see what regular Cadillac models with batteries and electric motors would look like. Instead, high-end brands will have a distinct take on them.

Smith said that the design team had adopted a current design scheme and language that took inspiration from the Escala concept.

"Crisp facial features" will be combined with "more muscular lines and surface beauty," Smith said. He even encouraged Tesla for this mindset and its opportunity to show the world that electro cars weren't supposed to look “weird.”

Cadillac aims to make electric vehicles desirable, with the Lyriq electric SUV being its first reference point. We should have already seen the debut model, but the situation with COVID-19 forced it to be postponed. Although, we still don't know exactly when Cadillac plans to unveil the SUV, Brian mentioned that the program is on schedule. It is worth noting that GM said this several times in the past. Cadillac simply said "stay tuned" for the end of this year.

GMC Hummer

The top twenty will also include two electric cars from the newly formed sub-brand, GMC Hummer. One of them will be the previously announced pickup, the output of the electrical installation of which will exceed 1014 hp. It will take a “green” truck 3 seconds to accelerate from zero up to 97 km/h. It will have the same air suspension as GM's current full-size SUVs. The second model of the sub-brand will be an SUV based on this pickup.

The only official image of the upcoming novelty is a teaser published by GMC as part of its Super Bowl ad. The SUV will receive a traditional radiator grille with six slats, HUMMER lettering and lighting, angular LED optics, a bumper with an impressive air intake and, it seems, thoroughly inflated wheel arches.

GM promises to make the SUV more dynamic than many modern supercars. Who knows maybe the company was eager to find aircraft design engineers who could help to provide all necessary features. Unfortunately, we do not know such important characteristics as, for example, the power reserve or battery capacity ⏤ even the number of electric motors planned for installation has not been announced yet. These details should be revealed closer to the date of the official premiere, but given the off-road nature of the electric car, you can count on at least two engines ⏤  one for each axle.

New Electric Cars in the Chevrolet Lineup

At the presentation of its electrification roadmap, GM confirmed the release of the updated 2021 Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Bolt EUV crossover version with a longer wheelbase and redesigned layout. Read also the article about automotive engineering .

The re-styled "regular" Chevrolet Bolt EV will retain the layout of the previous model, but will be updated with a new front end, taillights and changes in the interior, where the electric car received new more comfortable seats, a "fresh" dashboard, a sports steering wheel, USB Type-C ports, and advanced multimedia capabilities. Besides, the selector for switching modes of movement will disappear in the new Bolt, which in its place will be replaced by buttons.

As for the EUV version of the Bolt crossover, it will be an approximately 5-inch longer version of the Bolt, with a 3-inch longer wheelbase, more space in the cabin and trunk. The crossover will differ in design and technical equipment, in particular, it will receive a faster 11 kW onboard charger.

The Bolt EUV will have a bike rack, an opening glass sunroof, and interior design changes.

Probably the biggest difference with EUV is the installation of GM's Supercruise, a Level 2 autonomous driving technology that can truly help on long motorway journeys.
